What Does CIMT
Do For The Army?

The U.S. Army Center for Initial Military Training is the Core Function Lead for TRADOC for all initial entry training. What this does is provide a process that aligns the development of competencies (knowledge, skills, abilities, attributes) and behaviors in civilian volunteers in order for them to become Soldiers who are physically ready, grounded in Army Values, and competent in their skills so they are able to contribute as leaders or members of a team upon arrival at their first unit of assignment.

Initial Military Training includes developing baseline proficiency on warrior tasks and battle drills and critical skills associated with their military occupational specialty (MOS) or officer basic branch.

Mission

Lead the synchronization and management of initial military training and education to transform civilian volunteers into Soldiers who are able to contribute upon arrival at their first unit of assignment.


Vision

The Army Profession starts here - by preparing, training, and educating civilian volunteers, and transforming them into Soldiers, who are Competent in the military skills, individuals of Character, and are Committed to serving our Nation.


End State

Provide the Army with Soldiers of character who are competent and committed to serving our Nation honorably.

Principle staff advisor to the CG, CIMT on all matters pertaining to initial entry officer, warrant and enlisted training within the regular Army, Army Reserve and Army National Guard. Manages all aspects of current operations and future plans, develops strategies and policies to build a framework for the execution of IMT training, and validates standards and programs to ensure compliance with Army and TRADOC regulations.

Assist the CG, CIMT supported staff with analytical support by providing a scientific basis for decisions or actions to improve CIMT operations. Provide Operations Research Support, Analysis of complex problems, and medical expertise inside the training base.

Advise and assist CG, CIMT on all matters relating to military and civilian personnel management and administration. Oversee CIMT force structure manpower (military and civilian), and equipment requirements and authorizations. Formulate, allocate, administer, determine, and validate requirements for, and monitor the utilization of CIMT resources (funding, manpower, and equipment) to execute the training mission.

Deputy Chief of Staff (DCoS), United States Army Reserve (USAR) Directorate

Principal advisor to CG, CIMT on all USAR CIMT capabilities, policies, initiatives, readiness issues and programs of instruction pertaining to the effective training and integration of USAR Initial Entry Training Soldiers. CIMT lead to integrate directly with the 108th Training Command (IET) to ensure active participation of the training commands in the DOTMLPF process related to the USAR.

Deputy Chief of Staff (DCoS), Army National Guard (ARNG) Directorate

Principal advisor to CG, CIMT on all ARNG CIMT capabilities, policies, initiatives, readiness issues and programs of instruction pertaining to the effective training and integration of ARNG Initial Entry Training Soldiers. CIMT lead to ensure active participation of the National Guard Bureau in the DOTMLPF process related to the ARNG.

Leader Training Brigade

Leader Training Brigade conducts CIMT cadre leader development and provides training development oversight in support of the Soldier transformation process. Leader Training Brigade provides leader training across the Army in resilience and fitness skills, supporting the overall health and welfare of the force. Leader Training Brigade has the following subordinate organizations: the CIMT Leadership School, U.S. Army Physical Fitness School, U.S. Army Mater Resiliency School and the Drill Sergeant Academy.

Doctrine 2015

Doctrine 2015 publications are NOW available online!

Doctrine 2015 is an initiative to provide clear, concise, current and accessible doctrine to the field. Doctrine is important to the U.S. Army; it provides a body of knowledge that serves as the foundation for the Profession and for the successful execution of Unified Land Operations.

Doctrine 2015 accelerates the implementation of new doctrine across the force by providing the U.S. Army with a completely revised structure of manuals. The top level of manuals will be Army Doctrine Publications that are only 10-15 pages in length. Supporting references, Army Doctrine Reference Publications and Field Manuals, increase in length and depth of information. Doctrine 2015 will make these references available at the point of need through interactive media such as mobile applications. Additionally, Army Techniques Pubs will offer a "wiki" means of contributing to doctrine development.

Doctrine 2015 captures the essential lessons learned from 10 years of persistent conflict. It leverages a broader range of available collaborative technologies including wiki, interactive media instruction, video books, blogs and social media. Most importantly, it makes doctrine more accessible to Soldiers.

U.S. Army Drill Sergeant Academy (DSA)

The U.S. Army Drill Sergeant Academy runs both the 9-week Drill Sergeant Course and 6-week Advanced Individual Training (AIT) Platoon Sergeant Course to teach and mentor both Active and Reserve Noncommissioned Officers (NCOs) to prepare them for the role of Drill Sergeant or AIT Platoon Sergeant within the CIMT environment. The DSA also conducts recertification of former Drill Sergeants returning to DS duty and DS Leaders annually. Additionally, the DSA hosts the annual Drill Sergeant of the Year (DSOY) and Advanced Individual Training Platoon Sergeant of the Year (PSOY) competition to identify the best trainers from each component.
