The Master Fitness Trainer Course (MFTC) trains selected Noncommissioned Officers (NCOs) and Commissioned Officers in all aspects of the Army's Physical Readiness Training (APRT) system so they can be unit advisors on physical readiness issues and monitor unit and individual physical readiness programs. The instruction includes the science of exercise, physical fitness assessment, exercise training principles, exercise prescription, exercise leadership, and development of individual and unit physical readiness programs in accordance with current Army doctrine and regulations. The course consists of two phases: one-week (46 Hours) distributed learning (dL) and a two-week (96 hours) resident course conducted at the United States Army Physical Fitness School (USAPFS).
The course is comprised of Active and/or Reserve Component Soldiers who are recommended by their battalion commanders or equivalents. All seats in the MFTC are reserved in ATRRS with the first priority of acceptance given to NCOs in the rank of Staff Sergeant (SSG) and above, and to Officers in the rank of 2LT through Captain (CPT). Second priority of acceptance into MFTC will be given to Drill Sergeants in the rank of Sergeant (SGT) and Senior Officers. Personnel who are 40 years or older must provide proof of having passed a medical screening and participation in a physical readiness training program for at least 90 days prior to the course start date; this is a non-waiverable prerequisite.
Physical profiles that limit individual participation in physical readiness training will not be accepted. The Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT) will be administered at the start of the course. The APFT must be passed with a minimum score of 240 points and a minimum of 70 points in each event. Personnel must be in compliance of body composition standards as specified in AR 600-9. This is a rigorous academic course; recommended students should have a General Technical (GT) score of 110 points or higher. An Additional Skill Identifier (ASI) of 6P (Officer) and P5 (NCO) will be awarded upon successful completion of the course.
