Sergeant Major Phil Nicholson

Band Sergeant Major and Enlisted Bandleader

TRADOC Band Sergeant MajorSergeant Major Phil Nicholson, hails from Silverdale, Washington. He enlisted in the Army in November 1988 and attended basic training at Fort McClellan, Alabama with advanced individual training at Little Creek Naval Amphibious Base, Virginia.

His previous assignments include duty with the 9th Infantry Division Band, Fort Lewis, Washington; US Army Alaska Band, Fort Wainwright, Alaska; 82nd Airborne Division Band, Fort Bragg, North Carolina; US Army Europe Band, Heidelberg, Germany; Army Bands Branch Manager, US Army Human Resources Command, Alexandria, Virginia; First Sergeant of the 101st Airborne Division Band, Fort Campbell, Kentucky, with two deployments in support of Operation Enduring Freedom; and Sergeant Major of the Eighth Army Band, Seoul, Korea.

Sergeant Major Nicholson’s military education includes the Primary Leadership Development Course, Basic Noncommissioned Officer Course, Advanced Noncommissioned Officer Course, First Sergeant Course, United States Army Sergeants Major Academy (Class 63), and a number of other service schools and courses.

His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal (one oak-leaf cluster), Meritorious Service Medal (four oak-leaf clusters), Army Commendation Medal (four oak-leaf clusters), Army Achievement Medal (three oak-leaf clusters), Good Conduct Medal (eighth award), and numerous other service awards and skill badges.

Sergeant Major Nicholson is married to the former Sabrina Ann Spangler of Silverdale, Washington. They have two daughters, Emily and Chloe.
