WASHINGTON — In 2025, the nation commemorates the 250th anniversary of the start of the Revolutionary War and the 250th birthday of the United States Army. At the 2024 annual meeting of the Association of the United States Army, the U.S. Army Center of Military History begins an awareness campaign about these milestones in American history.

We need to begin preparing now to develop awareness and an understanding within the Army and the public about the Army’s essential role in the founding of our nation and in winning the Revolutionary War,” said CMH executive director Charles R. Bowery Jr

At this year’s AUSA annual meeting, to be held from October 14 to 16, 2024 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C., CMH will host a kiosk at the Army Exhibit focusing on these commemorations.

“It’s important to start planning events at all Army levels of command and within our communities as a means to educate people about the Army’s rich history and as a way to improve morale and pride in our units,” Bowery remarked.

The CMH kiosk exhibit will focus on the Army campaigns of the Revolutionary War and life of the Continental Soldier. A mannequin dressed in a replica Continental Army uniform, complete with equipment from the period and a “Brown Bess” flintlock musket, will be available for participants to see and handle as an experiential learning opportunity.

Among the many items available at the kiosk are informative handouts about Continental Soldiers, the role of women and families, Soldier rations, and a brochure about the Army’s role in the Revolutionary War, which folds out into a souvenir battle map of the Army campaigns. The kiosk exhibit also highlights the significance of the establishment of the Army on June 14, 1775, more than a year before the Declaration of Independence.

As America’s senior service, the Army played an essential role in the founding of the United States as an independent nation and in winning the Revolutionary War. There is no United States without the Army,” Bowery said.

CMH just launched a new website focusing on the history of the Army in the Revolutionary War. The website maintains a U.S. Army calendar of commemoration events, a list of Army resources, summaries of battles and campaigns, highlights key Soldiers on both sides of the conflict and provides links to the National Army Museum Revolutionary War exhibit.

In June 2025, the National Museum of the United States Army near Fort Belvoir, Va., will open a new exhibit focusing on the Revolutionary War. Army units and public communities can learn more about the Army in the Revolutionary War by visiting their local Army museums, these museums can be found on the CMH website.
