Noncommissioned officers from the Fort Sill NCO Academy train and teach one another how to use the fire control computer used by section chiefs during the Advanced Leaders Course. The NCO Academy here graduates over 2,900 NCOs a year. The ALC is the second course in the education system for NCOs. The purpose of the course is to increase skill levels at the section level to train, lead and fight.

Mr. John Grant, Chief, Technology Innovation Program, HT-JCOE, received the Defense National Intelligence Community Learning Innovator of the Year award in Washington, D.C. for his work in developing multiple training innovations in the past year using Virtual, Augmented, and Mixed Reality programs.  Mr. Grant’s efforts are reflective of the energy and initiative of not only HT-JCOE but ICoE overall.

1LT Edward A. Mullen, Aide-de-Camp to the Field Artillery Commandant, came to the immediate aid of several children and one ambulatory adult after they were caught in 100 degree heat on Elk Mountain in the Wichita Wildlife Preserve, adjacent to Fort Sill.  A park ranger and 16 year old hiker notified 1LT Mullen that members of the party were suffering from heat exhaustion.  He immediately raced up the mountain, over difficult terrain, to render aid.  1LT Mullen provided much needed water, encouragement, and radio communications while staying on scene to monitor one of the group suffering from a mild heat stroke.  He further helped to guide paramedics to the remote area to the location of the group. 1LT Mullen then assisted in the slow descent to the trail head.  Additionally, he provided aid for at least four hours in 100-plus degree weather, without regard for himself.

SFC Jimmy Lin, DLI Chinese Military Language Instructor, has been recognized as a TRADOC Hero of Week. Lin was named the Monterey County, CA Kiwanis Military and Civilian Teachers of the Year, respectively. The awards are representative of the partnership between the Institute and the greater Monterey community.

2LT Mahdi Al-Husseini, 1AB, an officer-in-training at USAACE, submitted an original design for a device to control the rotation of helicopter hoist loads and personnel that will allow MEDEVAC crews to conduct hoist missions in a safer manner by reducing the risk of uncontrolled spinning. 2LT Al-Husseini tested the device at USAARL. This week, he was notified that his concept white paper won the xTechSearch 3.0 Phase I and he was selected to compete in the Army Expeditionary Technology Search - xTechSearch - Phase II Technology Pitches.
